The Problem: Standard 6% Commission Rate You can't avoid the standard six percent commission rate without giving up the valuable services that help ultimately sell your home for the highest price possible. In a traditional transaction the buyer pays closing costs while the seller pays six percent of the sale price for agent commissions. The entire six percent commission is paid to the listing agency if there is no licensed buyer's agent. Otherwise, in most markets, the six percent commission is traditionally split: 3.6% to the selling agency and 2.4% to the buyer's agency, as shown in this chart.
